Bid were returned on November 3, 2000 for the Year 2000 Street Maintenance Program. The program was to remove the existing asphalt to concrete, repair and pave Mayflower, Graceland, and portions of Yosemite and Fair Oaks. Four companies bid on the work and all bids came in over budget. Therefore, all bids were rejected and the program was cancelled.
However, as a remedial measure, the Village contracted with a company, at a substantially reduced cost, to patch certain areas of the streets to hopefully sustain them until funds allow to complete the program, when reinstituted. Earlier in the season, other patchwork was completed on some of our concrete streets to prolong their life.
The patchwork used was different from what you are used to seeing. Previously, the Village service crews performed the joint sealing, but Council felt that we would get a better product by contracting with a company in the business of sealing streets, and hopefully save money in the long run.
